There’s a lot to be said for the power of spin – especially as it relates to your ratings. But more important than trying to convince others about how well your station just performed in the latest Arbitrend/tron, the chances are good that even the executives within your company will benefit from a brief, timely summary of what happened.
Everyone’s very busy, and it’s easy to just glance at a 12+ number in the trades – which of course, tells you nothing about what really happened. This is why smart programmers we work with write a quick, but comprehensive email to their staffs (and to everyone in the chain) just an hour or so after each monthly or quarterly set of numbers is released. It’s a great service to everyone who works at/with their stations, and it gives them a chance to offer a smart explanation about what happened, and what to look forward to down the road.

Fred, quite the distinguished photo! Is that Armani?

The other value of the quick trend or ratings paragraph is that you control the “ratings story” in your market with advertisers. They start seeing you as the experts.
Fred, you do look smashing.
