Take a good look at the three people pictured below. Chances are, you’ve never seen or heard of them.
And that’s the point – all three are featured speakers, presenters, and keynoters at the DASH conference next month in Detroit.
From left to right, Julius Marchwicki is global product manager for the SYNC AppLink platform for Ford. He was the first Ford exec we met at CES almost four years ago, and you can watch his video walk-through of the system in a blog post from that time. He’ll be getting DASH underway on Thursday, October 23, with a state of the “connected car” keynote.
Wayne Powell is general manager and executive engineer of electrical systems at the Toyota Technical Center. Toyota’s Entune platform is Wayne’s focus, and he’ll take DASH attendees behind the scenes to discuss what’s next and where broadcast radio fits in. I interviewed him about a year ago at an SAE conference here in Detroit, and he is a key player in this space.
And Fred Sattler is EVP/managing director of Initiative Plus, a dedicated media services company focused on Hyundai/Kia. He oversees that brand use of media, and has played a major role in elevating their sales success. Fred has a rich agency background, and knows media buying strategies better than anyone.
The fact you’ve probably never heard of them is exactly why we’ve put together DASH with our partners Valerie Shuman and Radio Ink. The radio industry needs to connect with the auto industry on two key fronts – the car as a new center for audio entertainment, and automotive as a major source of radio revenue – because both spheres are changing very quickly.
All three of these experts are just part of the amazing lineup we’re putting together for DASH – a 360° look at the “connected car.” We’ll have sessions featuring key players from auto advertising agencies, car dealership execs, the car makers and their Tier 1 suppliers, and other industry leaders who play important roles in how radio and the automotive industry will interface with one another down the road.
You’ll have the chance to meet, learn from, and connect with automotive moguls who you never see at radio conferences.

Peter Smyth, David Field, and Bruce Reese will be in Detroit, connecting with the auto community, and representing broadcast radio. They’ll be joined by scores of other radio people who recognize the need to be a part of a conference where partnerships, sharing of knowledge, and the identification of opportunities are at the heart of why we’re doing DASH.
It is essential that broadcasters from around the country step up and be a part of this conference. The auto industry needs to know that radio is engaged, local, and a primary part of the audio entertainment world. And Detroit is the place where it all happens.
DASH takes place on October 23-24 at the beautiful Westin at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, embedded right inside the Delta terminal. The deep discount on room rates at the Westin ends today, so if you’re planning on attending, keep that deadline in mind.
