There’s some good news with those NAB promos. While some of the artists just don’t sound convincing or engaged, there’s Slash who does the best promo yet. Radio needs more of these – self-deprecating, entertaining, real. (Click here to download it).
On the other side, AOL Music has just announced the new Springsteen single, “Devils & Dust,” will debut through AOL’s First Listen March 28th – yes, before it ends up on the radio. I could’ve sworn we were playing Bruce before there was an Internet.
Hard to believe a collective voice as loud as broadcast radio cannot make a statement to the labels and the bands, isn’t it?
Are YOU running these NAB promos? (of course only three of them make any sense for us in Rock — Skynyrd, Slash, and 3 Doors Down. Click here to see all of them).

Dan Kelley says
While I’m disappointed that Bruce has elected to debut his new single on AOL rather than radio, I’ve got to observe that while radio supported Bruce from “Greetings From Asbury Park” through his rise with Born to Run and his 80s run with strong top 40 and album hits – radio in recent years – reasons not relevant here – haven’t given him the support it once did.
His music doesn’t fit the mold for the current flavor of AOR/Active Rock; classic rock isn’t known for widespread support of new music – and AAA support is inconsistent.
I’m doubting he could depend on radio to really break his new material.
Yes…I’m a Bruce fan – and someone who played Bruce’s “Spirit In The Night” and “Kitty’s Back” on the radio when it was new.
