What happens when you have an active fan base and a great feeling about turning the spotlight on them – all the while highlighting your brand?
For inspiration, look for the most social brand of them all – Coca-Cola. They “get” what it means to showcase the fans, and they’ve produced a great example of UGC, or user-generated content.
They recently put together a promotion that any great radio station and/or personality show could pull off. The idea was for fans to submit videos of an “AHH” moment with a Coke. They received more than 400 submissions from around the world, producing this :30 spot.

Yes, an agency produced it, but you don’t have to put together a Coen brothers quality video to pull something like this off. You could use videos or photos, and all you need is someone at the station with iMovie and an imagination.
It could be a great way to activate all those smartphones at the next concert or station event.
It could be a way for listeners to show you why they love your music or your morning show.
This is how you produce content that goes viral.
This is how you showcase your fans and make your brand bigger than life.

“Radio invented UGC – we take phone calls!”
Sorry – that was yesterday’s post.
Agreed – every smartphone is a audio recorder – video recorder – camera and note taking machine – and most listeners have them.
They just need an easy way – and a good reason to send us their media.

But it can all be done, and empowering the audience to participate connects them to our stations – and encourages them to share their creations with others. We should be doing this. Thanks, Jeff.
