Well, Jacobs Media, in cooperation with R&R, is asking that question in a different way at this year’s Summit 13 in Austin, on September 18th. We’re assembling a group of nine industry luminaries to give us their best prescription of what radio needs to do during these challenging times. We’ve put together a forum that we believe is unique to radio conventions. Yes, there are always the CEO panels that we’ve seen year after year, and they’re fine for learning what the industry’s moguls have to say.
But our idea here is to open up the process to others in the business, because we know there are answers that live outside the corporate boardroom. We’re in the process of assembling a group that represents many different facets of radio to offer their ideas about where we go from here. Each will present his/her initiatives (3-5 minutes each), and then we’ll open it up for a discussion. R&R plans on turning this into a regular feature because the "answers" may indeed come from different places.
And in addition to our nine "Presidents," we’re opening up the process to the entire industry to pick our 10th participant. It could be a traffic director, a DJ, or a chief engineer. I can tell you that in my travels, there are lots of opinions out there, and they often come from some unpredictable people. That’s because there’s an incredible amount of passion for radio, despite all the speed bumps we’re encountering. Our goal with "The President of Radio" is to bring this energy and these ideas out in the open, because we’re all invested in this process.
It has always been our goal with the Summit to stretch the limits and try different things. With "Presidents," that’s exactly what it’s about. So if you have suggestions for who "The Nine" might be, let’s hear them. But better yet, why not YOU for that 10th slot? This is the time to step up. Check out our special web page, and let’s hear from you and your ideas. And hopefully, we’ll see you at the Summit.
