In our quest to keep moving the ball forward, it's critical to know where the proverbial puck is going, and how we'll be devising strategies around new media opportunities and challenges.
In this case, digital technology is at the intersection of where we've been and where we're headed, so there's no better place to experience and learn than the famous Consumer Electronics Show. Many people don't realize that it's more than four decades old, starting in 1967 in New York City. At this year's CES, more than 2,700 exhibitors will be showing off their wares.
This year, Microsoft's Steve Ballmer and Ford CEO Alan Mullaly will be among the keynoters, and the sessions look informative and stimulating as always.
Starting today when he clears security and lands in Las Vegas, Paul will be tweeting us about some of the people, gadgets, and innovations he's spotted, along with his own observations and witticisms of what it all means.
You can follow his Tweets and Paul's posts will also be on this blog.

Later this month, it's the North American International Auto Show – known here locally as the Detroit Auto Show. In past years, we've talked about the cars.
This year, we're talking about what's inside, because the story is all about the gadgetry and media that will be packed into new vehicles, as well as some of the new concepts that are planned for the not-so-distant future.
Our location here in Detroit has always afforded us a unique viewpoint of the automakers and their thinking. While the last couple of years have been rough, there is no question in our mind that new innovation is just around the corner, and it will change the way we entertain ourselves while on the road.
This has serious implications for radio because we have traditionally owned the "in-car" location – by default. That won't be moving forward, and it's important for us to understand the soon-to-be-infinite information and entertainment environment available on many different vehicles.
And the third piece of the pie is this year's 6th annual Jacobs Media Technology Poll, which has been conducted during the last five Februarys among Rock, Classic Rock, and Alternative stations around the country. We are in the planning stages for #6, and we'll be contacting past participants, as well as new stations, in an effort to create our biggest, most inclusive sample yet.
Who knew when we were getting our 3rd phone FCC licenses, completing broadcast school, and learning to run the board so many years ago that our industry would change so radically in our lifetimes?
The importance of staying current has never been important.
We're on it.
