You know that miserable feeling you get when you’re sitting in a movie theatre, after having paid $9 to get in, as well as $15 bucks for popcorn and soda – it’s when they start hammering you with commercials before the movie starts. And you think, I paid all this money to get away from those maddening commercials on TV, and I get THIS?
Welcome to what XM subscribers must be thinking, as commercials begin to permeate some of their music channels. You buy the radio(s), you pay your subscription fee, and it all ends up sounding like the commercial radio you were trying to escape. And of course, it’s a commercial broadcaster – Clear Channel (yes, and the irony is that they’re the "Less Is More" company) – that is forcing XM to go this route.
Advertising execs are now thinking that commercials on satellite radio are the future. And when you consider that Sirius is slated to lose a billion dollars this year, while the fiscally superior XM should only hemorrhage $500 million, the pressure on them to generate more revenue could very likely mount.
