So, this mobile apps thing is becoming big. And as marketing and research guys, we are bringing something a little different to the table with our app development company, jacAPPS. While we get all sorts of calls from people who say something like, "Just get us on the iPhone," the real question revolves around what is the goal of the app?
In fact, Seth Godin's Meatball Sundae, one of my favorite books, suggests that media outlets, festivals, authors, and some of the other customers at jacAPPs need to be thinking their larger digital strategy.
In the case of our company, we work hard to make sure our content is accessible to you in convenient, easy ways. Just like our radio apps. When you think about it, how have we trained listeners how to find our stations? Simple. You get in your car, you set up a station on a pre-set button, and it's there at the push of a button any time you want to listen.
Same with our apps. You don't scroll through hundreds of stations. You don't have to figure out whether the name of the station starts with a frequency, call letters, or a slogan. Instead, it's there on your iPhone (Touch) desktop, and it's ready to play at the touch of a button. And you don't have to mess with downloading a link from Safari, and they're easy to search and find in the Apps Store - just the way that Steve Jobs planned it.
So we started thinking about our own resources. Yes, we have a nice website that is open to both clients and anyone else who happens by. And our blog can be accessed via the site or by subscribing to it.
But we thought – hey, we're iPhone app developers – why shouldn't JacoBLOG have its own application? After all, the blog is now more than four years old. What's new and different about it?
And so we built our own app. If you're a regular reader of this blog, or you find it convenient to catch up with news and views on your iPhone/Touch, we've got a deal for you. It's a simple one-touch way to access JacoBLOG. Just go to the Apps Store, type it in, and it's a free, easy download – or just click here and go straight to it.
We'll keep coming up with thoughts, commentary, and ideas for the blog, and hopefully, you'll keep reading it. Now on your iPhone.
