As many of you know, ours is a unique perspective on the radio business. While not technically working for anybody, we essentially work for just about everybody. As they say, we could write a book. But there wouldn’t be a lot of readers. Hence, this blog. So as we near the halfway point of this year, here’s a list of things we’d like to see:
- HD2 formats that appeal to teens and 55+ listeners.
- Sirius and XM releasing the precise parameters about how they measure and report their subscribers.
- Someone’s marketing budget increasing.
- Someone’s marketing budget getting approved.
- An "outside radio" person heading up the RAB.
- An "outside radio" person heading up one of the broadcast companies.
- John Gehron getting a gig that would showcase his visionary programming strengths.
- Rock singles in 5 of the Top 10 positions.
- Record labels signing, and developing Rock bands.
- EVERYONE streaming.
- Arbitron moving at light speed. OK, 55 mph.
- Some serious research and development studies to help guide radio programming and sales.
- Passive measurement – yesterday.
- Morning shows thinking more visually & putting more of their best content online.
- iPods with built-in FM tuners.
- Someone outside of the industry telling you at a party that local radio has really been sounding good.
- Food and a movie on my next flight.
- Rock stars working the room like Country stars traditionally have.
- An industry task force that approaches radio’s "issues" head-on.
- The end of voice tracking – with live DJs at night and overnights – and someone to answer the studio lines.
What’s on YOUR list?

After this was written, it was announced in the trades that John Gehron will be running Oprah’s radio empire. So we can scratch that from the list.

Fred…you must be smokin’ some good stuff! And we can only you’re passing on the left hand side so everyone has the same vision…even if it is from a red-eyed perspective…’cause then it will get done
