If you’ve somehow not TiVoed through that new Wendy’s spot, you’ve may have heard the Violent Femmes’ "Blister In The Sun" (strumming, not the lyrics) serving as the soundtrack. Given that the last 7,000 TV spots have featured a Classic Rock song, maybe this is a welcome move toward a more thirtysomething audience – and a whole new library of materials for ad writers to choose from. Is "99 Luftballons" next?
Then again, I just saw a new Dodge Avenger commercial featuring "Smoke On The Water." So, the more things change…

Classic rock’s visceral appeal moves forward unabated. While listening to Rhapsody this evening checked the charts. The top artists/all genres headed by Avril, Akon and Daughtry included #13 Van Morrison and #15 Pink Floyd. The top tracks/all genres included Journey, Van Morrison, Oasis, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, The Police and The Rolling Stones. Everything old is new again, especially in advertising.
