For the next couple of weeks, WCSX here in Detroit is involved in a great Classic Rock event with Right Brain Revenue, an event promotion company headed up by Scott Segelbaum (formerly of WYSP, WMGK, etc.) – The Classic Rock Art Show. Scott has gathered up some incredible art work by the luminaries of Classic Rock – Hendrix, John Entwistle, Paul McCartney, Ronnie Wood, David Bowie, and others. And the photos of various rock stars are incredible.
But the event is about more than just art. CSX has acquired prime space in an area mall to display the art, which is on sale to the public. Scott takes his cut, of course, but a sizable percentage goes to Gilda’s Club of Detroit, a great cause named after SNL’s Gilda Radner. Gilda’s Club provides area cancer victims with a comfortable support facility to help in their recovery. At the premier last night, Gilda’s brother Michael was there, while Grand Funk’s Mark Farner performed.
This is an event that combines the best of all worlds – it’s local, it’s about community and charity, and it’s a great way to make Classic Rock come alive in a unique way. Kudos to CSX, Gilda’s Club, and Right Brain Revenue for a great event.
