The Clear Channel "restructuring" last week continued an industry-wide workforce diet that has been taking place for more than a year. A week doesn't go by where we don't hear from colleagues who have lost their jobs. And many of them have been top performers. It's the economy, stupid.
No need to get into a philosophical argument about whether or not these are sound business decisions. Our job is to solve problems for our clients. Instead of wringing our hands about what just happened, we're going to do something about it. Today, we are announcing "Ready To Rock." It's a free service to help talented radio pros in programming, sales, promotion, etc. post their tapes and resumes so hopefully they can continue their radio careers. Like our consultancy, it is Rock-centric. We are specifically focused on helping professionals in Rock Radio – on and off the air – get back to work in the industry they love.
These are obviously tough times, but we think the massive layoffs are a great chance for radio companies looking to find opportunity out of adversity. This is an industry driven by talented people – not bankers. The best team with the best strategy usually wins. In this case, the largest radio company just handed its competitors a gift – a chance to add radio professionals who just might be motivated to prove that they aren't "under-performers."
If you're looking for a job in Rock, send your info to us. And if you're a station manager or owner with Rock properties, visit the site and upgrade your operation.
