We try to tell it like it is in this blog, even when it ruffles some important feathers. Likewise, the last thing we want to be is self-serving. On the surface, today’s blog may appear to be just that, but we sincerely disagree.
Here’s the premise:
- Radio is at an important turning point, adapting to a world of new media technologies that are no less significant than the spread of TV in the 1950s.
- Standard research – when stations can still afford it – focuses entirely on the local radio wars.
- Consequently, stations are missing the bigger picture.
That’s why we have decided to allow more stations to offer the annual Jacobs Tech Survey to their listeners. It’s not because we need a bigger sample. Last year, over 25,000 radio listeners took part.
In the past, we’ve been able to show stations how many of their listeners are “Cell Phone Onlies” that Arbitron can’t reach with the diary methodology, how morning shows would fare after Howard went to satellite, what listeners visiting websites are hoping to find, how often listeners text each other and which ones want them from you, whether satellite radio is a threat and why, the real selling points of HD radio. The findings go on and on – and they’re often quite station specific.
What will we discover this year? We won’t know until next month, but we do know it could have a major bearing on your strategic plans. We’re including questions about iPhones and Guitar Hero, so it will most definitely be interesting.
We urge all Jacobs’ client stations to sign up for Tech Survey IV immediately. And we’re proud to offer participation in the Jacobs Tech Survey to non-client Rock stations… if we don’t already work with your competitor. Contact lisariker@g5j.8ac.myftpupload.com to find out if your station and market are eligible. We charge $600 or less for data processing, based on market size.
Information is power. And this information is about as powerful as it gets.
