Here we are, four years later, and another company tradition is coming together. I’m speaking of our Summer School sessions at the Conclave, an important conference and organization dedicated to the care and training of future broadcasters.
We were once again honored to kick off Conclave with an afternoon of sessions, interviews, and presentations designed to stretch minds and get the juices flowing. Lori Lewis, Mike Stern, Paul Jacobs and I participated from the Jacobs Media side. And we had some remarkable special guests – Joe Curry from Target, Beverlee Brannigan from the Journal Broadcast Group, renowned Country consultant and Rockwell Award recipient Jaye Albright, and iconic programmer Dave Hamilton of KQRS fame.
More and more, they say you can get a sense for an event by following its tweets. While I still think that you have to be there, to give you a flavor of how Summer School played out, let’s turn to Twitter. Here are a handful of tweets that pretty much sum it up:
Paul Jacobs’ “Making a Remarkable App” session:
“One-To-One with Jaye Albright:”
Lori Lewis’ session -“Building A Believable Social Brand:”
Jacobs Media’s newest consultant, Mike Stern, had a great session about putting together a personality show – “Building From The Outside In.”
And the Dave Hamilton interview:
One of this year’s “Summer School” guest lecturers was Beverlee Brannigan, VP of Programming for the Journal Broadcast Group. Her topic? “10 Things I Know For Sure,” and it really captured the feeling of the room:
Paul Jacobs and I did a session on the “connected car.”
There were other highlights, as well as two days worth of sessions above and beyond “Summer School.” Of course, Art Vuolo was on hand to capture it all on video.
Thanks again to Bob Shannon and the Conclave board for continuing to provide us a platform, and to all of you who enthusiastically attended. We hope to see more of you at Conclave 39 – and hopefully, Summer School 5.

Excellent snap shot of the proceedings. How about each region forming a swat team to reprove, restate and reestablish radio’s strength and power to connect. Good for business, creativity and the economy. Efficiency and effective messaging can not become a lost art. Thank you, Fred and Bob Shannon for making it happen!

Thanks, Clark. Much credit also goes to my staff and our esteemed “guest lecturers.”
