Radio stations and companies are finally waking up to the reality that providing a stream isn’t just a neat idea – it is essential if radio is to compete with new media. So, if you’re providing a stream – or will be in the near future – congratulations on getting in-tune with your listeners.
But how do you get the word out to the audience that you’re providing this Internet service?
Of course, there’s your own air. “Teach” the audience you’re streaming and connect the dots for them. Let them know that when they’re on their computers – at home or at work – they can simply listen to you online. Focus on time of day – especially the moments when you know listeners are on their computers.
Could streaming be the beginning of a trend to salvage flagging night numbers? Many people are on their computers at night – promote your station as the accompaniment.
