One of the best lyrics in all of music history comes from Lou Reed’s aptly named "Rock N’ Roll" when he sings, "Her life was saved by rock n’ roll."
A few weeks back, the San Diego Padres lost a game to the L.A. Dodgers that they should have won. The Dodgers hit four consecutive home runs in the 9th inning to tie the Padres. Then Dodger Nomar Garciaparra’s two-run walk-off homer won it in the 10th.
Suffice it to say, it was a bitter loss for the Padres, and the losing pitcher, Jake Peavy, along with two other teammates, skipped the team plane ride home. Instead, they rented a car, and took a more leisurely, thoughtful ride down the Pacific Coast Highway.
When asked how they passed the time, Peavy noted that after awhile, talking about this disastrous game gave way to listening to music: "Bad Company, Van Morrison – we rocked out." And after playing air guitar and drums, Peavy said, "We just talked about hunting and life. I think that’s what we needed."
We don’t know if the source was a radio, an iPod, or something else, but it’s nice to hear a great story like this about the power of rock n’ roll.
