The Jacobs Media Technology Web Poll has been released to participating client stations, and will be making its way into the trades in the coming days and weeks. There’s so much data here, that it’s difficult to determine the most impressive finding. Many of you have already read the “cell phone only” story. There’s also big news about iPod ownership and use, as well as the incredible proliferation of videogame play.
Perhaps it also provides some much-needed perspective about what we should be worried about and what’s way off into the future. While satellite radio is the talk of the media, its penetration today is far below so many other media/activities. That’s not to say radio doesn’t have issues with the spread of satellite radio, but it does suggest that other media (Internet streaming radio, IMing, cell phones, etc.) are far more pervasive at this point in the game.
We very much want to run a track survey next year, to measure how it’s all going to change. But for now, the Pyramid might be worth tacking up on your wall, sharing it with other staffers, and simply having a reminder of who’s doing what.
