Where is the year going? I don’t know about you, but it’s hard to believe we’re already at Memorial Day.
So as we head into the weekend, our thoughts turn to those who have given their lives to service for our country, along with those who are serving today.
Over the years, radio has done some amazing things to honor our troops and service men and women. This is especially the case in towns where there’s a strong military presence. Our company has been fortunate enough to have consulted great stations in Norfolk and San Diego – two markets where our country has a huge naval presence.
Saga’s WNOR has always been especially active in supporting the military in Hampton Roads, and has organized “living flag” promotions on more than one occasion where thousands of residents came together to make a patriotic statement and to show their true colors.
It’s interesting that at a time when there are so many digital outlets in which people can be seen and heard, it turns out that giving listeners an outlet to physically show up somewhere, participate in an event, and personally connect with others can be infinitely more powerful than posting patriotic photos on Facebook or Instagram.
Radio has the ability to tap into those emotions and give fans a sense of purpose and place.
On this weekend, where we often combine remembrance with family activities, we wish you safe travels and a break from the routine, but also the hope that you have an opportunity to remember why this holiday is on the calendar.
We’re back Tuesday with fresh content for a short workweek.
