In a recent Rolling Stone, Asylum Records President Todd Moscowitz notes that "Ring tones are the new singles." In many recent focus and L.A.B. groups, radio listeners continue to tell us that they do lots more on their cell phones than just talk. In fact, ring tones are playing a big role in their activity. Just listen to cell phones going off in meetings, in movies, and everywhere you go. If you’re under 30 (or female?), it’s a good bet your phone doesn’t ring, but instead sings.
What’s in it for us? Well, many stations and morning shows have the signature sound. From KMET’s "Hoo Ya" back in the day to WRIF’s Arthur Penhallow’s "B-a-b-y," we have sound and we have fans who want to make a statement.
The numbers? Ring tones are a $5 billion dollar business, and showing no sign of slowing down.

Fred was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2018.
