What is it about the Beatles that keeps them in the news month after month, year after year? In just the past few weeks, their legal issue with Apple Computer was front and center. Then their "new" CD releases created buzz.
And now, their project – LOVE – with Cirque du Soleil promises to be a big deal in the entertainment world. Combining with the greatest performance artists of our day, the Beatles’ music will become the soundtrack of Cirque du Soleil’s next great performance, opening in Las Vegas at the Mirage in June. All of this came out of the relationship between Cirque founder Guy Laliberte and the late George Harrison. According to Cirque’s website, Sir George Martin and Giles Martin have created the soundtrack for LOVE from the Abbey Road masters.
So what is it about the Beatles? Perhaps it’s as simple as acknowledging they are indeed the most powerful force in popular music in the past 100 years. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
