Here we are once again – on the precipice of wonderful holidays and for many of us (present company included), a much-needed break. If that sounds like you, I hope the next 10 or so days turn out to be just what you’ve been waiting for.
I’m going to keep this mercifully short for all the right reasons. You’ve hopefully got better things to do these next couple of days – spending time with family, friends, and loved ones, travelling someplace fun, nice and welcoming, watching football, catching up on sleep and rest, and recharging those batteries.
As we’ve hopefully learned by now, life IS what you make it. With each passing year, it only becomes more precious. Hopefully, you’ll take the time to count and celebrate your blessings.
Happy holidays from the staff at Jacobs Media. We appreciate all of you, clients present and past, over these past 40 years. We are thankful for each and every one of you, and we very much appreciate your faith in us to help guide your businesses and organizations.
We’re back on Tuesday with our “Best of” posts to wrap up the year.
Peace.

Xmas breakfast is over. My adult Kids have headed out to their other relatives for lunch, to be back for a big dinner here. House is warm and so are the feelings. While we have not worked directly together, I’ve learned a lot from reading your blogs…and that after 40 years as a programmer. Appreciate your shares and insights and trying to guide an industry which at times seems like trying to herd feral cats. Best to you in the New Year…

Fred (I like you already), just trying to make sense of it all. I appreciate the kind words, Hppe you’re is a wondeful holiday – enjoy the gifts of friends and family.

Fred, I hope you had a happy Christmas celebration with the people who love you most.
I send you a big hug of gratitude for all the teachings and opinions you share with us, which undoubtedly helps us to be more professional in our work.
My admiration and respect will accompany you daily in 2024 and in the other years to come.
Happy New Year!
Fred Jacobs says
I’ll take that hug any time, Tito. The best of holidays to you and yours, Tito. much gratitude to you for reading my musings.

As I sit here amazed that people are angry that an NFL game was on a “paid” service and that self-checkouts are the end of civilization as we know it, I also need to thank Fred and Paul for the very cool thoughts over the years. It’s obvious that broadcasting (and the rest of the world) will continue to evolve as it seeks its own level, but companies like Jacobs Media (and others) will keep us on our toes for the “next” step. The daily contributors to the comments section are the other essential ingredients to this compelling daily discussion. Happy Holidays to all-and please have a great 2024.

Dave, it’s all about the cost of doing business. Many Detroit Lions’ season ticket holders are up in arms – understandably so – for prices that have risen as much as 150% next year. Undoubtedly, some of them wlll not be able to afford these hikes, despite supporting a substandard team for decades. Sadlly, it is about the price of success.
Here at JacoBLOG, no paywalls or solicits. Enjoy the content as long as can make sure we have somethinig of substance to say. Dave, I have nothing but thanks that you read and appreciate it.
John Covell says
Many thanks, Fred, for all your caring for this unique industry we love. Best of the season to you and yours.

John we all have much to be thankful for. I have talked to many former colleagues in the wake of Jim Ladd and Ken Calvert’s sad passings this past week. To a person, there is much gratitude for the ability to have worked in radio at such at amazing time. It is unquestionably different today, but there is still much to treasure. Best to you anad yours this holiday season.

I know I’m a day late in commenting, but I want to echo the sentiments of those who are thankful for the blog … both those who have commented and the countless others who read it daily without commenting.
Fred, we all know you don’t HAVE to blog. Heaven knows you have enough on your daily calendar without this added responsibility. Yet here you are, day-in day-out (side reference to Bowie in the mid-80s). Long ago, someone put a philosophy in my mind and it has been part of my guidance ever since. I want to share it now because it’s pretty obvious that it’s part of what makes you continue blogging:
Knowledge is much less useful if it is not shared with others who can benefit from it.
Even though I am much more Classic Hits than Classic Rock, I still find a lot of shared knowledge here that’s relevant to what I’m doing. And I also thank you for allowing me to comment from my perspective when I believe what I have to say is relevant to both formats.
Most of all, I thank you and Paul for hanging in there, for the sake of our industry as a whole.
Best wishes for 2024.

I’ve gotta tell ya, Fred, that happy, smiling, marshmallow snowman enjoying a “dip” in the cocoa just brought such a smile! Who CAN’T feel good looking at a happy marshmallow snowman?? (I actually saved the image just to forward to some friends who I know it will also make smile!) My only quibble with the post is you shouldn’t have included “count your blessings” among the activities to do during the holidays–if we do that, we won’t have time for ANYTHING else!
And who also can’t feel good having a friend like you batting away on behalf of this still great medium as it goes through so many changes–in a world going through even MORE changes?
So thanks as always…and CONGRATULATIONS to your Lions!! I’m pulling for ’em–and for the whole Nation!
