Somebody in the new technology space has finally recognized the value of radio. While there have been a number of failed starts to date, it looks like finally there will be an FM receiver that works like a charm with a portable Mp3 player! And it will work with your iPod, no less! Courtesy of the nice folks at Griffin Technology (also the makers of the Radio Shark we like so much, along with other cool iPod accessories), there’s now an all-in-one radio, remote, and recorder for the iPod called, of all things, iFM.
Yep – you got that right. Now your audience can record your station directly into their iPod from over the air.
As noted, there’s been quite a few products in the past that have tried this (e.Digital’s Odyssey, PD Hercules, iRiver, Pogo’s Radio To Go and others), but so far, most have gotten a failing grade for usability and quality. This nifty doo-dad will only run about $50 and, while limited to the nearly ubiquitous iPod, that’s a lot of people – and growing daily. The only things missing from it are a timer and detailed specs on the recording quality (hopefully much better than its predecessors). Oh yeah, there is the Tunestir – which does pull in FM and transmit to your car stereo, but it doesn’t record, it’s a bit shaky in terms of quality, costs about $20 more, and, well, it’s ugly.
Better start getting your podcasts how YOU want them – instead of forcing your listeners to make it up for themselves.

Griffin’s website doesn’t say anything about the iFM being able to record to the iPod.
