Where did the summer go? And what will the third half of the rest of the year bring to broadcast radio?
More flat earnings, a rash of station buys and sells, a healthy political advertising climate, or something altogether different?
First and foremost, let me thank you for taking the time to read this blog. For many of you, our dialogue about the state of the radio industry has become a daily habit. JacoBLOG tries to walk that line between agent provocateur and flag waver – hopefully, we get that balance right on most days.
Second, the change that has swept across our industry (and many others) keeps us inspired, young, and motivated. No one’s resting on their laurels in 2014, and we’re seeing some exciting innovations, while saluting some from the past each Friday. We’re getting great reactions to our “Radio’s Most Innovative” series, and invite you to let us know about something exciting that’s occurring in and around radio by emailing us at innovation@g5j.8ac.myftpupload.com.
Part of this tsunami of change has to do with the “connected car.” The automotive industry is helping to redefine just about everything in radio, from distribution to revenue generation. We are excited to have been on the forefront of this change as a company.
And the OEMs are changing everything. From the modern-day assembly line pictured above to the digital dashboard that consumers now enjoy when they buy or lease a new vehicle, radio’s place in the car is being redefined.
The issues in and around this dynamic space are changing on an almost daily basis. At our DASH Conference in October, we’re not going to solve the problems of the world. But unlike any other conference in and around radio, we’re going to take them on and help radio and automotive understand each other’s problems and opportunities.
Consider what’s been going on since last year’s groundbreaking DASH Conference. To that end, here are some of the topics our DASH agenda will cover:
- HD Radio & new cars
- The future of traffic reporting on the radio
- How advertising and media planning are changing due to increased access to data and geo-location in cars
- The car dealer mindset and its impact on radio revenue
- How medium and small market stations can make a difference in this landscape
- Radio’s place in the consumer electronics world
- Mobile app strategies and “connected cars”
- Apple and Google’s foray into the digital dashboard
- What happens when a consumer takes delivery on a new car & the dashboard training experience
With executives like the Consumer Electronics Association’s Gary Shapiro to the Ford Motor Company’s John Ellis, we’ll tackle it all. From Pandora to Emmis, General Motors to Group M, they’ll all be at DASH.
This weekend, while you’re taking the burgers and dogs off the grill, hanging out with family and friends at the cottage, or just catching your breath for the rest of 2014, make it a point to invest in your future, as well as your brand and your company’s ultimate place in the “connected car.”
It starts with learning, networking, and experiencing the automotive industry in a way that is unique to radio. We’re excited that Detroit is the home of DASH for the second year, and we’re going to meet on October 15-16 to continue our dialogue and move it forward. You can register for DASH by clicking here.
For most of us, radio is a labor of love, so this Labor Day Weekend, take a few minutes and make the professional commitment to join us at DASH.
We’re back on Tuesday with fresh content here on the JacoBLOG. Thanks again for your support.
