As the wave of social media has swept over our culture in just the last few short years, it’s fascinating that it has all occurred organically. You’ve never seen a Facebook television commercial that explained how the site worked or testimonials from satisfied users sitting behind their computers.
And you’ve never seen a billboard for Twitter, a bus side for YouTube, or an ad in Redbook for Pinterest. That’s the power of word of mouth when something new becomes a cultural tidal wave.
But what if these sites actually created ad campaigns, and what if they had a retro spin – complete with pictures of users and catchy slogans?
The Brazilian ad agency Moma Propaganda took a great shot at this, and below are ads for Facebook and Twitter that capture the times, as well as reminding us of how the intersection between traditional advertising and social media just might produce a few side-swipes.
Enjoy.
