Thanks to Steve Goldstein for bringing an article in the Arizona Republic to our attention. They report about a new Federal study that shows that cell phones have passed standard land lines in both Arizona and the rest of the U.S. The article notes that Quest Communications lost more than 1 million land line subscribers in 2004 company wide, a trend that shows no sign of abating.
While this isn’t a shocker, it illustrates the speed at which technological change is moving. Whether it’s the explosive growth of iPods, the quick rise of DVR ownership, or the "cell phone only" movement, radio and related entities like Arbitron, have to move quicker, smarter, and faster if we’re going to compete and adapt.
