So, you don’t have a lot of cash, you have to generate some attention, you’ve got enough for a billboard or two, so what do you do?
This is the point in the meeting where someone says, "Hey, let’s have our morning guy put a gun to a dog’s head and do the old, ‘If you don’t listen, the dog gets it’ routine." Yes, there are bad ideas in a brainstorm.
Apparently, no one stood up to make that statement in Chrysler Group’s Netherlands Marketing Performance Center. As a result, the commercial shown below did see the light of the day, only to be pulled when consumers in the U.S. pushed back.
There has to be a better way.
Rock 102 in Fargo may have found that tried-and-true way to do just that. Their board (below) recently went up, stirring up the community, and giving that community something to argue about. (It’s been a while since the film Fargo totally pissed them off.) To the credit of the station and their parent company, they’re enjoying the media storm, and even finding ways to keep it alive, on and off the air.
Killing dogs versus an ad that Hooter’s could have run? My money’s on Rock 102.
