How did it get to be December already? Well, before you head back to the office or the station tomorrow, here’s our potpourri of articles and stories that we hope provides great accompaniment to your Sunday routine. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. – FJ
1. The Marriage Of Instagram And Music
We often think of Twitter or Snapchat as the social media platforms of choice for music stars. But the real growth area has been Instagram. Here’s an interesting article from Fast Company that shows you how Instagram has done it. Read it here.
2. An Inside Look At Gen Z
Don’t look now, but the younger sibs of Millennials – known as Generation Z – are asserting themselves and we’d better pay attention. They were born between 1996-2011, and they’re 60 million strong, making them a larger population segment than Millennials. This is a long, but fascinating Fast Company story on what they’re about and how they’re different from Millennials. Thanks to KNDD’s Leslie Scott for tipping us off to this article. You can check it out here.
3. The Art Of Selecting Commercial Soundtracks
Toyota is making waves for its use of the Oldie, “You Don’t Own Me,” in their new Corolla campaign. And you don’t need Sean Ross to tell you the song was a Lesley Gore hit from 1963, now used to attract those Gen Zs and Millennials to buy a new car. BTW the campaign is working. You can read the CampaignUS story here.
4. Vinyl Records On Digital Steroids
This is a great story about how combining an old school format like vinyl records with a digital tool – the Chatbox – has turned startup ReplyYes into an instant sales success. You’ll wonder why you didn’t think of it first. It’s an AdWeek story you can read here.
5. Whatever you do, watch this short video.
That’s all I’ll say. It’s more about storytelling and attention span. Here’s the AdWeek story where you can watch the video here.
As always, we want to know what you think about these articles and features, as well as our “Catching Up Over Coffee” feature. Please drop me a note with any feedback here.
