It was not an unfamiliar scene for me – flying at 35,000 feet. In this case, I was on my way to Las Vegas for the PRPD Conference on yet another Delta flight out of Detroit.
During the taxiing, I finished my New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today. So I reached into that seat pocket in front of me and grabbed SKY, Delta’s very readable magazine.
And as I browsed through, I was pleasantly surprised to run across an article about radio. “Morning Zoo-Ology” highlighted six American morning shows – from PLJ’s Scott & Todd to 96X’s “Radio From Hell” (a show near and dear to us at Jacobs Media).
Also featured were WDVD/Detroit’s Blaine & Allyson, WEEI/Boston’s The Dennis & Callahan Show, Hot 107.9/Atlanta’s Rickey Smiley, and KLOVE/L.A.’s Omar y Argelia.
A couple of familiar “commentators” on radio – Michael Harrison and Tom Taylor – are richly quoted.
And the article refers to radio as “an American ‘art’ form.”
Whether your station is featured in SKY or not, it’s a great piece about something broadcast radio continues to do very successfully.
