There’s been lots of talk about podcasting during the past year. As is typically the case with new technology, everyone debates about whether it’s the next big thing or another geeky wild goose chase.
Our new Technology Web Poll confirms one important thing – about one-fifth of our Rock sample owns an iPod-like device. And of those who don’t, about four in ten say they’ve very or somewhat likely to buy one this year. Those are big numbers. Whether these consumers get into podcasting is an unknown, but the application is intriguing.
The Seattle Weekly just started a weekly feature – a local restaurant guide podcast that consumers can download into their iPods. Using the same “wheel” that listeners use to scroll through songs, you can easily browse restaurants for all the typical variables (price, cuisine, reviews, etc.).
A radio application? Tim Davis’ idea is a weekly concert/club/entertainment guide (yes, sponsored) that your station could put together that’s available for downloading into an iPod. This cements your station’s image as the concert/event authority, while also linking you with technology that’s only growing in importance.
