I remember living in New York City in the early '80s. It seemed like every other parked car had a sign in the window “No Radio” – designed to prevent a rising wave of car radio break-ins and thefts.
Last week, NYPD announced that iPod ripoffs were the reason for an increase in subway crime. As the New York Times asks, isn't that an tacit message that iPods are “objects of desire?”
They are, and it begs the question about why those “No Radio” signs have disappeared. Maybe we should be hoping to see “No HD Radio” signs in the next couple years – a sure sign that our product is desirable once again.
