In today's Philadelphia Inquirer (and perhaps other daily papers across the U.S.), the ads for Sirius/Stern have begun with a vengeance – taking a distinct free speech direction. The "stripper" headline and the reference to "uncensored" says a lot about the direction Sirius is planning to take with the marketing of these channels.
It also suggests to us how terrestrial stations might counter the Sirius effort, and position its local morning shows with advertisers, and perhaps with listeners, too. And in a related/unrelated note, it was announced yesterday that the CRTC (Canada's equivalent of the FCC) won't allow Stern's show on the Sirius product in Canada. Unlike the U.S., the CRTC requires satellite broadcasters to be licensed.
