You hear a lot about those amazing YouTubers – seemingly regular people who make videos that out-cume Z100 and Power 93. So what’s the secret?
Adweek caught up with YouTube sensation, Rosanna Pansino, to learn the secrets of viral video success. You may remember we highlighted Rosanna last year in a blog post about YouTube stars. Pansino arrived in Hollywood with the dream of becoming an actress.
Instead, she may be hitting it bigger with her baking show, “Nerdy Nummies,” on YouTube that has amassed 4 million subscribers. Her baking videos are fun, entertaining, and they have spawned other content, including cookbooks.
So how did she do it? And what are the secrets to making great viral videos? In this one-minute video, Rosanna tells all about what it takes to successful on YouTube:

So Rosanna Pancino’s 5-step program for YouTube success:
- Be yourself
- Make content that you are passionate about
- Upload regularly
- Engage with your community
- Work
And if you look at these five pieces of advice, they apply to pretty much every piece of content you create. It’s the recipe for producing a great morning show, an entertaining podcast, or a compelling blog.
So often, radio people get hung up on a single step, and miss the larger point that all five ingredients are essential during these times when getting a consumer’s attention has never been more challenging. In today’s environment, creating great content doesn’t mean much if you don’t do it regularly, you fail to share it, you don’t take the time to connect with your audience, or you aren’t creating content you’re truly excited about.
Rosanna’s last piece of advice is also essential – WORK. As you saw on her video, she devotes approximately 100 hours a week into her online franchise, of which about 70 of those hours take place in the kitchen. To continue to produce essential, sticky, and fun videos that will keep her fans interested, engaged, and enchanted requires that level of time commitment.
That’s food for thought.
Bon appetit.
