Last week, Google made the announcement that podcasters around the world have long been waiting for: The company would officially embrace podcasting by making podcasts available for listening in the Google Play Music app on Android devices.
As I explained in this blogpost, this is kind of a big deal. In fact, it could do more for podcasting than Serial and Obama’s Marc Maron interview combined. Currently, far more podcast consumption happens on the Apple’s iOS devices than on Google’s Android devices. But this new development could be a game changer.
While there’s no word yet on exactly when podcasts will be available for listening in Google Play Music, the company has invited U.S.-based podcasters to submit their shows here.
In this short video, I’ll show you the process as I submitted my All Access podcast.
If you have a podcast, I highly recommend that you submit it to Google now. There’s a good chance that this could wind up being the number two source of podcast listening behind iTunes.
If your radio station isn’t currently creating podcasts, now is the time to give some serious thought to it. With Google entering the space, we could soon see the audience numbers for podcasts increase dramatically.
