Even though I’ve been using AI text and image creation tools like ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion since their public releases in late 2022, creating an AI newsletter for the radio and broadcast industry is a major undertaking. Not only is there a firehose of new AI tools, websites, and innovations being introduced every single day, many are pricey, derivative, or simply irrelevant to our industry.
But the need for this newsletter is great. AI is far-and-away the most-talked about topic in our conversations with media professionals. But there’s no source authority to help curate all this info. At Jacobs Media, we’re hearing these questions:
What’s working? What’s hype? What’s in my price range? What will help me do my job better? Which tools can help radio stations best function? Where are the legal and ethical snags? These are all important questions for those of us who have seen our job descriptions change and expand dramatically.
So, I asked AI engines what should be in this newsletter, and frankly, the results were underwhelming. In fact, most were pretty generic and “by the book” or better put, “by the bot.” You can see some of their responses here. Needless to say, this will be a newsletter about AI that will be generated by an actual human, not an algorithm.
This newsletter will strive to provide the AI-news-you-need-to-know from boldface companies like Microsoft, OpenAI, Google, and Meta while introducing new tools, services, and techniques that have real-world practicality in our industry. We hope to showcase startups, while highlighting best practices any one can make work. Just like AI itself, this newsletter will evolve.
I’d love for this AI Edge to be the beginning of the conversation. If you have a tip, product, a success (or fail) story, on an idea you’d like to share, please reach out to me: chris@g5j.8ac.myftpupload.com. I’m excited to be on this crazy AI ride with you.
