classic rock

Jacobs Media created the Classic Rock format in 1985, cited by Radio & Records magazine as one of the 35 most pivotal radio events. Today, we consult some of the most successful stations in the U.S., specializing in Classic Hits and Classic Rock. The success of the Jacobs Media Classic Rock model is based on the continuing innovation that includes compelling promotions, along with fresh marketing and positioning. Underscoring the importance of Jacobs' work on this front, Radio & Records recently lauded the creation of Classic Rock as one of the "35 Pivotal Radio Events in R&R History."

The company’s "Workforce" promotion has been hailed as a "killer ap" for the format. Jacobs Media currently consults leading Classic Rockers, including WZLX (Boston), KGON (Portland), WCSX (Detroit), WMGK (Philadelphia), KSEG (Sacramento), WGRF (Buffalo), and WHTQ (Orlando).

alternative

Ironically, it was the "Classic Rock Company" that seized the opportunity with the Alternative format. In 1988, Jacobs Media created "The Edge," the most recognizable brand name in the format. Today, Jacobs Media has become the nation’s leading Alternative consulting firm, working with format leaders like KBZT (San Diego), KNDD (Seattle), KPNT (St. Louis), KXRK (Salt Lake City), KNRK (Portland), and others.

active rock and aor

Because of our expertise in both Classic and current formats, Jacobs Media works for an impressive array of Rock stations. Jacobs Media has guided legendary "AOR" heavies who’ve made the transition to Active Rock. While many of the industry’s leading rockers in the ‘60s and ‘70s failed to change with the times, Jacobs Media’s Active Rockers are often market leaders in the millennium. Clients include market leaders such as WRIF (Detroit), KSHE (St. Louis), KISW (Seattle), WMMR (Philadelphia), and KRXQ (Sacramento).

other creative formats

Jacobs Media is pioneering some of the most creative and successful hybrid formats. Stations like WSWD (“The Sound” in Cincinnati) and WTGB (“The Globe” in Washington) take customized, unique approaches and have enjoyed initial success. These stations break the mold – they combine elements of AAA, Classic Rock, and Alternative and have devised their own custom blends for their specific market situation.
